Algaida is an archetypal rural Majorcan village, situated in the fertile plain, the Pla de Mallorca, near the hills of Randa, 20km east of Palma.
In the small village (approx. 4.200 inhabitants) surrounded by rolling hills, pastures, almond tree plantations and pine woods, you will find several old mill towers and a Gothic church dating back from the 14th-15th century.
Around the market square there are bars and shops and here every Friday morning the local farmers offer their fruits and vegetables.
A pleasant walk through a shady wood leads up to the small Ermita de la Pau, the oldest testimony of the Christianity in Majorca. In this absolutly idyllic spot, you can enjoy the magic of the surroundings. The church, built in the 13th century by the Catalan conquerors, has a portal of Roman-Byzantine style.
